BIOGAS FUEL AND ENGINES<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Biogas in rural areas of our country today is produced from various sources. The effect of the production as well as the quality of biogas depends much on the inputs. The main components in the biogas are CH4<\/sub> and CO2<\/sub>. In normal environmental conditions, the average volumetric concentration of CH4<\/sub> in biogas is higher than 50% vol for most of raw materials. Biogas produced from pig waste has a methane composition about 65%. On the other hand, the concentration of main components in the biogas produced from pig wastes didn’t change a lot with time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To improve the calorific value of biogas we need to filter CO2<\/sub> by chemicals such as CaO, NaOH. Using a appropriate chemical, we can eliminate CO2<\/sub> quasi completely, improve significantly the quality of biogas. However, in some conditions of use, this costly step may be unnecessary. In contrast, among of the remaining substances presenting in biogas H2<\/sub>S is the most hazardous contaminants which must be excluded before using biogas as fuel in all situations.
 
H2<\/sub>S can also be eliminated simultaneously with CO2<\/sub> by the chemicals products. In fact, we can use the cheaper materials to filter H2<\/sub>S like iron-shavings, diatomite, bentonite,… Our experiments show that diatomite is the least effective, bentonite is the most effective and iron shavings gets the intermediate position. In normal conditions of biogas pits using pig wastes; after filtering by iron shavings or bentonite, the concentration of CH4<\/sub> can reach to 80% vol in case of not using any CO2<\/sub> filtration.
 
In our study, biogas after H2<\/sub>S filtration with iron oxide or bentonite is supplied directly to the engine. Combustion of biogas in the engine is simulated by FLUENT software in 3D space of combustion chamber. The experimental studies are carried out on site of biogas production with FROUDE test bed.
 
Biogas conversion kits are designed and manufactured to convert traditional engines into biogas ones. Biogas engines are then applied in many sectors in rural area.
