PERFORMANCE OF BIOGAS MOTORCYCLE
Abstract:
The present paper presents some results of studying combustion in a biogas-fueled 110cc motorcycle engine with 60% to 80% of CH4 mol fraction contained in cylinders at 50 bars pressure.
The simulation of biogas combustion in engines is based on fluid dynamic software FLUENT with turbulence model k-e and partial premixed combustion model in which the laminar flame speed is determined by different concentrations of fuel containing CH4 and CO2.
The results show that when the engine is fueled with 80% volumic fraction of methane biogas, the optimal advanced ignition angle is in range of 20 to 36 degrees when the engine speed varies from 3000rpm to 9000rpm and maximal powers at difffenrent engine speeds are lower than that of gasoline case by about 20%.
